The climb up Google

Meta-tags are somewhat outdated but still useful to the search engines, so we are told. And the advice is to continue using them. So my quest currently is to easily be able to include meta-tags in the blog. There are plenty of plugins out there as usual, and, as usual, they are not always exactly what you want.

Shepreth Wildlife Park

Another Friday afternoon outing and this time we went over to Shepreth Wildlife Park. It was a lovely sunny afternoon and the park was most enjoyable, if a little expensive we thought. However there was plenty to do and we could probably have spent all day there which would have been better value. It was a very pleasant afternoon.

goatThey have a range of animals from the homely guinea pigs, familiar but friendly goats and sheep, to the exotic lizards and right up to a huge tiger who was sunning herself happily on top of a table in her run. The animals are all beautifully cared for and have a lovely environment to be in.

One of the most surprising things I found about Shepreth was its tardis like appearance. Although it seems fairly small and you certainly don’t feel like you are walking a long way, the aniamls all have plenty of space to relax in and with large trees and areas of grass it gives a very park like experience. Very relaxing to walk around.

For the energetic there are play areas too. James and William enjoyed the little fairground ride and the slides and things to climb on. There was also a soft play area, although we didn’t venture in there today, and plenty of room to run around safely. You can buy feed for the larger animals and the pigs certainly seemed to enjoy our contribution.

Finally the important things. There are toilets always within easy walking distance and a nice little restaurant which we enjoyed. There is also a very well stocked shop.

A hen plan!

I have a hen plan - at last! I went to see a lovely lady at the weekend who breeds Araucana and Orpington hens. (She also sells lovely irises - see her website at irises online.)

So the plan is to get two Araucana cross hens (with lovely little pompoms of feathers on their heads!). That will increase the laying stock for now and they lay lovely blue green eggs. Then later in the summer we will get a couple of the Orpington hens. I’m not sure which colour to go for get - and it depends what Claire has got of course. But hopefully they will go lovely and broody next spring and we can start to raise some of our own chicks!

So look out for more hen news here in the future - and pictures of the new arrivals coming this weekend.
